Fred Meyer

Fred Meyer is a chain of hypermarkets founded 88 years ago (1922).

Fred Meyer found in Portland, Oregon by Fred G. Meyer.

First it was a one-stop shopping, eventually combining a complete grocery supermarket with a drugstore, clothing store, shoe store, fine jewelers, home decor store, home improvement center, garden center, electronics store, toy store, and more.

Fred Meyer stores are throughout Oregon, Washington, Idaho, and Alaska.

When Kroger made a deal with Fred Meyer, they start having it in New York too.

The symbol is FMY.

It also sometimes known as "Freddy's", a nickname the company was given by its customers and which is used in its advertising.

For the commercials they use "What's on your list today? You'll find it at Fred Meyer!"

Fred G. Meyer, originally of New York City, opened his first public market at Portland in 1922.

In 1928 (82 years ago), Mr. Meyer opened the first self-service drug store.

He would pay customers' overtime parking tickets, so they gaive their home addresses to order what they want.

The first full fledged Fred Meyer in the Seattle area opened in Lynnwood, Washington. It was also the largest Fred Meyer.

A single Fred Meyer store employs anywhere from 50 to 300 employees at any given time.

During mid-day, usually you will find around 100 employees working at one time.
