Mohammad Reza Shajariyan


He was born at 1940, he is 71 years old.

From Mashhad, Iran.

He is an Persian traditional singer, composer and ostad (master) of Persian music.

He has been called "Iran's greatest living master of traditional Persian music."

He is also known for his skills in Persian calligraphy, and humanitarian activities.

In 1999 UNESCO in France presented him with the Picasso Award and in 2006 with the UNESCO Mozart Medal.
He started at the age of five.

His dad helped him with singing.

Also he stated calligraphy at the age 12.

He stared his skill of singing at 1959, 52 years ago.

Since then he had work at teaching at Tehran University's Department of Fine Arts, working at National Radio and Television, researching Iranian music, and making numerous recordings.

He aoso made his son Homayoun Shajarian to join him.

He started playing santour with Abolhasan Saba.

He also performed concerts in support of people of Bam.

He made a project for the people of Bam.

THe president of Iran Mahmoud Ahmadinejad called him the voice of "Dust and Trash." Shajariyan told BBC Persian that he will always remember it.

He mentioned that his famous song "Iran, Ey Saraye Omid" (Iran, the land of Hope), has no relation with the current situation of his country.

He iad got 8 awards.
